Yarning Circles

Remah Naji is a Palestinian Australian activist, education worker, and community organiser based in Magandjin (Brisbane), Queensland, where she is a well-known figure in local politics and Palestine solidarity advocacy.

Born in Jordan, Remah is the daughter of Palestinian refugees who were forcibly displaced twice: her mother’s family in the 1948 Nakba, her father a survivor of the 1967 Naksa. She studied linguistics and communication at university, and moved to Australia around twelve years ago, settling on Brisbane’s south side, where she works at the University of Queensland and is raising two children with her husband.

In 2024 she became the Greens candidate for the federal seat of Moreton in Queensland’s 2025 election, a run that, if successful, would have made her Australia’s first Palestinian Australian MP. She renounced her Jordanian citizenship to be eligible to stand for federal parliament. Her campaign centred on housing, workers’ rights, climate justice, and ending Australia’s arms trade with Israel.

She has long been a leading organiser with Justice for Palestine Magandjin, helping lead protests against the state of Israel’s war on Gaza, and sits on the board of the Australia Palestine Advocacy Network.
